Run The Border – Oliver Smith

Run The cardiff Border

Run The Border

I like raising money for incredible causes, as not only does it help those in need, it also inspires me to get outside and find my limits and share my love of adventure. 2020 has seen a whole heap of plans canceled, and the ability to undertake big adventures and raise awareness and funds for vital charities has become ever more difficult.

I’m currently under second LockDown within the Cardiff County border, and this is starting to get me down. So I decided to flip the narrative, and see if I could turn this into an opportunity – on the 1st of November I’ll be lacing my trainers for the inaugural Run The Border, c. 60 miles of Mountain, River, Sea and Road around the Cardiff boundary. I’ll be raising money and awareness for the incredible team at @bigmoosecoffeeco, whose inspirational work with mental health and well-being is absolutely vital in the world we now find ourselves in.

I also want to encourage others to get out and run/walk/ride/scoot their own Borders, no matter the distance – I truly believe in the power of exercise and the outdoors to help improve our lives, and knowing that others are out there enjoying the outdoors with me will help me get to the finish line.

So, the challenge in numbers…
60ish miles (we’ll find out after)
5,000ft climbing
1 day
Self-supported £1,000 funding target
Biting off more than I can chew is a bad habit, but I kind of like it..

Let me know below if you’re going to join me (literally or figuratively) outdoors on the 1st.#runtheborder2020
